For non-foaming systems the design velocity is usually 60–80 % of the flooding velocity; 45 % for foaming systems. Umin = (Lw)min × σ. For packings ≤ 75 mm (Lw)min ≈ 0.08 m³/(m·h); for rings > 75 mm ≈ 0.12 m³/(m·h).
