Count buildings within a zone ¼ mi (0.4 km) wide with the pipeline on the centerline, divided into random 1 mi (1.6 km) sections.

Inputs

Number of buildings intended for human occupancy in the 1 mi (1.6 km) section

Area with prevalent multistory buildings (4 or more floors), heavy or dense traffic and numerous other underground utilities

Design factor used (Division of Class 1)

F = 0.80 (> 0.72) — Division 1 F = 0.72 or less — Division 2

Location class

Basic design factor F (Table 841.1.6-1)

Class 1: 10 or fewer buildings
Class 2: more than 10 but fewer than 46 buildings
Class 3: 46 or more buildings (unless Class 4 prevails)
Class 4: multistory buildings prevalent, heavy traffic, numerous other underground utilities
