Reference Data Tables
The tables below reproduce the key values of ASME B31.8-2025 used by the calculators.
If the joint type cannot be determined with certainty, take E = 0.60 for NPS 4 (DN 100) and smaller, or E = 0.80 for pipe larger than NPS 4 [para. 817.1.3(d)].
For intermediate temperatures, interpolate the derating factor.
Abbreviations: ERW/E = electric-resistance welded; EFW = electric-fusion welded; SAW = submerged-arc welded; SMLS/S = seamless; CW/F = furnace butt-welded; COW = combination welded. For grades in other specifications, refer to the applicable specification.
DP = design pressure; MOP = maximum operating pressure; TP = test pressure. Air/gas test values are multiplied by MOP or DP as indicated. See notes of Table 841.3.2-1 and paras. 841.3.1–841.3.3.
Hydrostatic design basis used with the plastic pipe design formula of para. 842.2.1.
MAOP = test pressure ÷ factor. Left: ≥ 100 psig; right: < 100 psig.
F varies with location class and clearance to the fenced boundary.
F₁ hoop, F₂ longitudinal, F₃ combined stress.
X = (C·M·Q)^0.6258. US: ft, ft³/day; SI: m, m³/day.
K = 0.6 + (2/3)(d/D₀) for 0.15 < d/D₀ ≤ 0.60.
