Moment to Produce Flange Leakage M_L (Table E-1, Note 14)

Estimate the moment that produces leakage of a flanged joint with a gasket having no self-sealing characteristics: M_L = (C/4)(S_b·A_b − P·A_p). Where the required expansion moment exceeds M_L, leakage may occur at otherwise permitted expansion stresses.
